It sold well enough to prompt a direct sequel which competed with Capcom's Resident Evil (1996).
The game began as an experimental project with a low budget and small staff. Kono's inspiration for the first Clock Tower title came from watching Italian film director Dario Argento's horror films, especially his film Phenomena (1985). Scissorman is a reoccurring antagonist and sometimes the sole enemy in the game. Gameplay in the series generally involves the player hiding and escaping from enemy pursuers without any weapons to defeat them. The fourth and most recent title, Clock Tower 3 (2002), was co-produced by Capcom and Sunsoft for the PlayStation 2. Human Entertainment developed two more entries, Clock Tower (1996) and Clock Tower II: The Struggle Within (1998), which were released on the PlayStation and localized outside Japan. The first entry, Clock Tower (1995), was developed by Human Entertainment and released on the Super Famicom in Japan. This game at first was amazing, with eerie surroundings, atmosphere, music, and plot,but fails due to it's goofy later plot.Clock Tower is a survival horror point-and-click adventure video game series created by Hifumi Kono. You don't have any weapons at your disposal, leaving you to rely on hiding places, stunning holy water, and your wits. The gore is moderate, there are a few cutscenes that i wouldn't show the kids though. The gameplay is decent, sometimes turning around is tricky. the classic scissorman of the first games of the series is lacking in this one, but is replaced with a multitude of newer enemies. Yet unfortunately at the beginning of the third section, it all goes downhill, using mediocre jump scares, as well as a very thin plot that could be straight out of final fantasy, definately not fit for a game of it's genre. The first 2 levels and bosses of this game had this at at LEAST number 3 on my favorite games of all time list, next to silent hill 1 and 2. you are alyssa, a young girl who finds herself caught amidst a chilling mystery across time. I'm a big fan of the clock tower series, so i had to play this one.
